From One Dog to Another

I saw the video — thought it was brilliant — headed over to BHB — quickly composed a telling title — wrote a FOUR word totally linked ‘post’.

Wow!

What always surprises me, much to my wife’s amusement, is how so many put forth their view on any particular subject matter as if they’re Einstein explaining gravity to a six year old. And if the child shows the least crack in the wall of complete adherence to the wise teacher, he has provided empirical evidence of at least mild retardation.

I’m always not only willing but more than eager to learn, especially when it comes to my vocation.

Answering questions, whether asked directly, or implied, should be in depth, with as much rational thought and (here’s that word again) empirical evidence if possible.

I’ve been challenged countless times, often face to face in my own office. Since I know what I’m doing, and understand the principles and concepts on which my investment philosophy is based, I can provide an uncommonly detailed answer to just about any question posed.

Invariably, my answer more than satisfies the questioner, or at least allows them to fully understand the subject from a different viewpoint.

Something my Grandpa told me almost over 40 years ago has stayed with me. He said, “Nobody wants to know HOW the cat was skinned until they find out IF the cat was skinned.”

Applied to this whole video dustup, nobody has a clue whether or not Daniel’s video will in any way become a direct or indirect source of business. Yet so many will never know because they’re too busy explaining to the uneducated/ignorant masses why it won’t skin the cat.

Of course in later comments we learn that all of our responses are “swill.” Apparently there wasn’t a Latin phrase handy.

Ben – I disagree if only because the other dog’s biggest strength is the ability to grandstand to drive traffic. You’re average wacky FM DJ could learn a few lessons.

If I’d wanted to increase my own traffic on my own blog I could have posted my objections there. But this seemed the better forum because, though from what we’ve discussed Lani and Benn don’t see it this way, AG operates as the anti-BHB.

This has nothing to do with the contributors, which are quality in both locales. But the blatant hypocrisy of the other side – promote the purity of the conversation so long as it promotes the personal quest for notoriety – is just too much.

He took it further than that. In the same quote:

I don’t read the swill that people spew when they get the idea that their anger proves something, but the general proposition is funny to me: “We’ll show him what happens to someone who takes a firm moral stand against an irrational mob!”

I responded to that on BHB, but my comment was not approved.

I asked if what he calls “a firm moral stand” infers that he stood up to something “immoral”. If so, then it has now gone from merely insulting to immoral.

I also asked if it occurred to him that his twist on a Biblical reference, where he states he would look after his flock differently than God would, was likely to have insulted more people than a simple video that cut to the chase about all that matters in this market – price.

BloodhoundBlog is written to be controversial, and — as this post and many others make plain — we don’t — and should not — care whose toes we might step on.

Unless those toes are Greg’s.
