[BREAKING NEWS:] The National Association of Realtors’ Center for Realtor Technology has just been added as a sponsor for the Real Estate Bar Camp (REBarCamp08).
Why is this breaking news? Because everyone’s whities are in a wad over how the NAR dinosaur doesn’t engage their members and technology is rendering them useless to their due-paying members.
Rather than making their first step into the Web2.0 world of real estate by sponsoring a supermega-conference, they’ve selected to make a splash by getting involved in the Real Estate Bar Camp which is free for attendees and is an exciting collaborative effort of idea sharing (read about the Bar Camp history and philosophy here).
Agent Genius commends CRT for their selection to begin their online involvement with REBarCamp08- this makes a huge statement on their part that they’ve listened to our call to get involved and there is no better way than the underground Bar Camp movement. Kudos, CRT for joining us in sponsoring REBarCamp08!

I’d like to believe that this isn’t a new occurrence for CRT, and I think our history does side with me here. In my mind, we’ve always been out there among you since CRT was created 6.5 years ago, but at times we do seem like a best kept secret of NAR.
One thing to note, is that we have sponsored many other conferences in the past, but I’m more then happy to have us sponsor this one and to be participating in the event.
Interesting but it worries me a little too. By the time something becomes so mainstream that NAR takes an interest it is obsolete, or course many of us have been at the web 2.0 thing for quite some time now. Wondering what the next big thing is and hoping to implement it before the conference.

CRT has been blogging for years, it is obvious by the archives. What I find most exciting is that such a small gesture of interest in our ideas of the future may be heard today rather than after they’ve become obsolete. That’s the news in all of this. Looking forward to meeting you.
