If you could add to the NAR Code of Ethics, what would you add?
I am sure there are things that bug you. Come one, start typing, then we can all comment on it.

We should get Sellsius in here. He wants to mandate one pro bono transaction a year. I’m not sure how that would work but, hey, whatever.
I’m not sure what I would add. I would like to see better enforcement and stiffer penalties. Part of that challenge is that a large swath of the public doesn’t even realize Realtors subscribe to a Code of Ethics.
I agree with Ken, enforcement is needed and better education of the public.
I don’t know that there is *anything* to add. It already seems bloated to me. The problem isn’t that the code doesn’t cover enough – it is the random and often non-existent enforcement of the existing code. Filing a complaint is a real chore and the actual process is slow, and usually pretty much pointless.
But other than that, it seems just great.
I think the whole thing needs to be re-written. It is cumbersome, and obviously listing oriented, it also fails to address new technology. For proof just look at the scraping controversy last year.
I believe it is all there. Just needs to be enforced and an easier way to report those not following it. It is so cumbersome that it is not worth the time so we just ignore.
To have a letter put in their file is nothing. I’ve set on Professional Standards hearings and it is usually split down the middle, and how do your report stupid.
Delete the entire thing. You do not need any code of ethics. What you need is adherence to the laws already in place.
Does anyone care about the code of ethics for stock brokers?
Indeed, Ken.
The NAR Code of Ethics should add a pro bono section. Pro bono work It is not meant to be mandatory. But NAR would recognize it as an admirable principle of Realtors. We all know Realtors do pro bono work. The Code will recognize this and can proclaim it to consumers..
Here are 5 reasons why NAR needs to add a pro bono provision to the Code of ethics.

I think the code is ridiculously convoluted. I would like to change it to SIMPLIFY it.
1. Answer your phone and return phone calls promptly.
2. Check your email daily and return emails promptly.
3. Tell the truth.
4. Don’t tell lies about other agents/brokers or badmouth them.
5. Respect another agent’s client relationships.
6. Show R-E-S-P-E-C-T to other agents, period.
7. HELP other agents when the opportunity arises.
8. Always put your client’s needs above your own.
@Eric- Excellent start!!
Simple, eh? I aimed for 10 but actually think I covered it in 8. And NAR prints what, 10 pages each January to make sure we treat each other nice?
