With so many homeowners who have listed their house already owing more than the value of the house, who is going to pay for this? The bank requires the house to be listed for the short sale process. Does the gov. think the bank is going to supplement the homeowners to meet the requirements to list their home?? I think not!

We’re dealing with a very similar policy here in Austin and it was met with a lot of resistance.
I really think consumers are blind to this issue as it is pretty much completely anti-consumer from top to bottom. I asked a 25 yo at a networking meetup (as he sung the c&t praises) if he realized the impact it would have on his personal electric bill, and he had no clue. I told him to go and find out for himself that he didn’t need to take it from me. Needless to say, he didn’t like it when he realized he personally would be footing the proverbial bill.
I’ll take dollars over ‘change’ any day.

Whether this provision makes it to the floor of the Senate or not remains to be seen. It was in the House bill at one time as well then was pulled. When it was yanked from the House a number of supporters of C & T emailed me with a ‘see, it’s not actually in the bill’ type of feedback. Well THE POINT is that it was even in there AT ALL. This would be a devastating blow to our already crippled industry and change the way America even looks at home ownership. The mere fact that it was in there tells me that the current party in power wants it in place…..[shudder].

Boxer and Pelosi are puppets for the most extreme environmentalists in California and are destroying this state. They have a history.
Boxer was behind the addition of MTBE into our gasoline, adding to the costs. Then they find out a main carcingen polluting the water table is MTBE, and Boxer and Feinstein are enraged to find out this happened. It was a result of their actions.
In the Central Valley, they have shut off the water to 1000s of farmers, who are now standing in food lines instead of growing food. Pelosi refuses to have any meaningful discussion about turning the water back on. Its all about “saving’ the Delta smelt, a 3 inch long minnow. What is killing the smelt is the 150k gallons of ammonia flowing into the Delta.
The energy audit is just another stake through the heart of all Californians. Homeowner or not, this will increase housing expenses across the board.

I do agree that this is a bad bill in that the timing couldn’t be worse. I do have to say though that most people will look at their bottom line before thinking about the environment. From what I have seen in my market, most don’t give a fig about global warming – they simply want COMFORT. Central AC in summer and cheap heat in winter. From what I’ve seen there is precious little motivation out there to save the planet.
Our area is “blessed” with ConEd – which forces people to be more – well – environmental. Not that they want to be – they simply have no choice. We have some of the highest gas and electric rates in the nation. It has forced conservation and changes in lifestyle. All you need to see is a gas and electric bill for over $800 for a 1600 sf house and that will do the job.
I agree that the idea of not being able to list a home without passing an energy audit is absurd. But it is equally absurd that people will be motivated by carrots. Unfortunately, it takes financial pain to force that kind of change. H

Completely agree with Bob on this one – the last thing we hicks in the sticks of Gawgah need is more California Democrats dictating policy for the rest of us. You want to do it in Cali? Be my guest – get it through the Governator of your own state and leave the rest of us alone.
Our area is already replete with protected wetlands – overseen by the Army Corps of Engineers – and in an area full of hunters and fishermen (and women) – we already have a healthy respect for our land. To have these energy audits pushed on folks with a hearty belief in the right to bear arms is certainly not the route this government needs to take.
Imagine a winter/spring with these audit requirements and no more 1st Time Homebuyer credit. I’m thinking of dusting off my khakis and fouled anchors and calling the canoe club to see if they’ll let me back in….

Another bleeding liberal at work. Between the Liberals in California and Obama this country in going down fast. My family is from California and I cannot live there. The liberal way of thinking has almost bankrupted the state and now they want to take the rest of the country with them. I guess the old saying is true. “Misery loves company”. When are the people in this country going to stand up to these morons and say we have had enough?
