Lani, She is really a fabulous role model for us today, her husband died when she was only 34 and she had 5 children, so she started writing. Trained at home by her brother who graduated from Dartmouth as woman didn't go to college then. She was an advocate for woman, day care, play and recreation for children and woman authors.

Heck I give up after 2 calls to my legislatures and she wrote letters for 4 decades advocating for Thanksgiving.

Ken, don't hoard give it away. LOL

This is a great history of the holiday.

Yes, the country has come a long way since simpler times. Money, and the pursuit of it in amounts so vast it could not possibly be useful, has permeated our political and corporate systems. I' not against making a buck. Or even two or three. It's the hoarding that gets to me.

@missycaulk I knew the technical history but not how it came to be a national holiday, I don't think they teach that in public schools which is a shame, it is such a beautiful sentiment! Once upon a time, the Constitution was a beautiful gift we could point to as a shining example of our unique DNA as a nation and could tell children that they can fulfill whatever dream they have and the Constitution will protect their rights. Now, it's just a campaign buzzword or an obstacle to litigation.

I think we'll tell our children Hale's quote, thank you for sharing!!
