Creative ways home buyers are sharing experiences [Feature]

Given that it is less than 10% likely that a buyer will begin their search for a home without using the internet, it’s not surprising that with the rise of the web’s influence, buyers are turning to the web to share their entire experience from start to finish with their friends and families via blog.

A few of our favorite blogs written about that magical time when they are anxious and dreamy about getting those house keys are Meet My Ugly Baby, Young House Love and Dream House Blog.

My personal favorite is Meet My Ugly Baby which is a blog written by a couple who realized they can’t afford a giant home in downtown Vancouver because it’s really expensive, so they began a blog about their hunt for the perfect fixer upper (hence, “ugly baby”). I enjoy the writing and I’m excited to learn about each new step. It’s full of human writing (even cuss words, which of course I love), human emotion and great imagery.

Young House Love is a beautifully designed blog with the tagline, “two young people fall in love with their first house.” Granted, they sell stuff for homes and have a studio, if you look past that, the documentation they’ve done over time of finding that perfect first house might remind you of how lovingly attached buyers can be to their home and what role you can play in that dream.

Dream House Blog has come to a close after a family customized their new home (which is GORGEOUS, by the way) and what is really touching is that their final blog post is not a goodbye, it is an article devoted to their builder and a link to his website.

The grind can be exhausting from a Realtor perspective, so it really must be amazing to see the fruits of your labor in a public forum like a blog. What buyer or seller blogs have you seen that capture the magic of the transaction?

Lani! Thanks so much for the mention, you’ve made my day. (And cuss words are cathartic).

It’s so important for Realtors to experience how consumers are sharing their experiences, what a great set of examples!

What a wonderful and refreshing story. Thank you Lani! An agent I know in Colorado, Dave Moon, said to me a year and a half ago, “Mark, isn’t it ironic that people are going to the COMPUTER to find PEOPLE?!” It’s so true. So much of what we hear in the business realm with regard to technology is hype about “the next best thing” or “the new hot trend,” while people are revealing their honest humanity right in front of us:)
