It’s A Good Thing

Good thing I can laugh at myself. You know, there are times when I want to bury my head in the sand. This wasn’t one of those times. But it wasn’t the way I wanted to handle the situation. It just happened. You know “–it.” “–it” happens.

I referred a client to a mortgage broker. Not only did she not tell me she didn’t like him, she referred her mother to him. Huh? I don’t get it. Anyway, I’ve been fielding calls and emails from both of them. I’ve had to review loans — I’m no expert at that — so I’ve had to bring in another mortgage broker. Blah. Blah. The client did not want me to tell the mortgage broker she thought he was a loser, capital L.

The client sends me an email today. The subject is “EWWW.” Here’s how it unfolded:

Mortgage broker: Hi Kelley, I hope that you and Dan had a happy Holiday Season and that everything is going well.

Now that we are in the new year, I want to schedule your 6 Month Review with you and Dan.

Do you have time next week to meet? Please provide a couple of days and times that you would be available.

I look forward to your reply and seeing you both again. I also need to speak to you about your mom. I spoke to her last week and I want to update you on her insurance and mortgage situation and need your advice on how best to proceed.

Regards, Mike

Client: Ewwww. I don’t want to talk to him.

Me: Just don’t respond. If he calls, say no thanks. We’re good. (Here it comes.)

Mortgage broker: Okay. I don’t know what I might have done to elicit this type of response but I want you to know that you may have mistakenly sent this to me. (Oh crap.) Mike

I’ll be looking for you very soon on one of those Southwest Airlines “Want to get away?” commercials… Classic.

Good stuff. Great that you have a sense of humor about it, hope everyone else does too. 😉

It was bad. I would never have handled it that badly on purpose.

I had asked the client several times to let me talk to him but they didn’t want me to. They were embarrassed, if you can believe that.

I’m still laughing about it. I’m human, what can I say.
