No more traditional bulbs
When President George W. Bush passed the Energy independence and Security Act of 2007, part of the act phased out traditional light bulbs in favor of incandescent and LED bulbs that consume less energy. We couldn’t imagine a world with those horrible squiggly white overly bright lights and lamented a life of warm natural light.
We’ve come a long way since 2007- there are a lot more options on the market with more on the way and the price point isn’t as high as it once was for eco-friendly options.
The Philips AmbientLED
One such bulb that has caught our attention is the Philips AmbientLED 12.5-watt A19 LED lightbulb which has garnered positive reviews on TreeHugger.com, “probably the favorite LED bulb that I’ve tried so far,” they said.
The bulb can be dimmed unlike some of its competitors and it produces 800 lumens (which TreeHugger clarifies for us makes it the equivalent of a 60-watt incandescent bulb). It gives off the light of a traditional bulb which is why it has our hopes up. Of course it is Energy Star rated and uses 20% less energy of a 60-watt bulb and what is awesome is that the bulb works for 25,000 hours and has a 6 year warranty.

Correction – it uses 20% of the energy of a 60 watt incandescent, not 20% less than a 60 watt incandescent.
