Best phone ever?
Stop the presses, the best phone in history has just been revealed and while it is no secret that we are huge HTC EVO fans here at AG, this new generation of the EVO would have us converting to Sprint no matter what. In January, polled AG readers about your smartphone preferences and learned that nearly half of you plan on buying an Android next, could this be the phone you’ve been waiting for?
First, let me get to the punchline and then I’ll give you the specs. This phone can (drumroll please) film in 3D and doesn’t require glasses to see the 3D effect. This is serious business. Can you imagine doing a fun 3D tour of your newest listing as a blog post? You can even watch back your 3D video instantly on the EVO.
HTC EVO 3D specs
No pricing or release date has been set, but it is rumored that we will see them on shelves this summer. It films HD in 1080p and 3D in 720p, a 1.2 gigahertz snapdragon processor, weighs 6 oz. (the weight of a hockey puck) and has dual 5 megapixel cameras in the rear with all of the goodies the first generation HTC EVO offers.

I don’t know if I’m ready for 3d, it would mean we’ll need to replace at least 4 televisions if I accept 3d into my life. The smartphone is a fast slippery slope. 🙂

Meh, doesn’t do it for me. I have a really nice Samsung 3D TV I don’t really bother using in 3d mode other than an occasional movie for the kids, but rare. Other people feel the same who I know that own them.
Droid-life has a poll running right now on who is interested in 3d in a phone. Keep in mind they’re polling hard core Android phone technology enthusiasts… the results so far are 9% are interested:

3D technology is still limited in convenience and quality. Combine that with the fact that camera phone video quality is VERY limited itself, it seems like more of a gimmick to bring it to a phone at this point.
I’m concerned about what other resources and features this would take away from the phone. How bad will normal picture quality suffer? I would rather them put an awesome lens with an 8MP camera to dominate picture quality of phones.
The dual core processor looks to have some potential, but all the phones they’ve been testing with it on the boards aren’t really showing an advantage for battery life or performance yet, it’s it’s really only hype.
I really liked the EVO, but had to turn off 4G or I’d burn through the stock battery in 5 hrs with light use, just wasn’t realistic. I’ve recently switched to the Thunderbolt (also HTC) with Verizon and it’s an awesome phone.

I’m looking forward to it, and not just for the 3D camera. Dropped my EVO this weekend, and unlike my previous slips, this one actually broke the screen – just wish this new phone was already out!
