Why such rapid growth?
Google recently announced that Android apps have surpassed the 3 billion download mark and although Apple is at the 10 billion download mark, Android alone is up 50% from the fourth quarter of 2010.
The reasons for the increase in number of apps installed include more apps coming online, multiple places to obtain apps like the Android Market and Amazon Appstore.
Another reason for the rapid increase is the rise in popularity of Android devices. Google says that
Huber also mentioned that 350,000 Android devices are being activated per day with all carriers now carrying some form of smartphone using the Android operating system (OS).
Another possible reason for the rising number of Android app downloads is that a reported 57% of Android apps are free compared to 28% of Apple apps.
